A method from Speedment that makes databases 100 000 times faster, software from Volumental that converts image information into useful 3d models, and animal-free allergy tests from Senzagen are just some of the Swedish innovations that are about to change their industries.
14 April 2015, 33-listan – a list of Sweden’s hottest young technology companies – was presented this evening for the eight consecutive year at Munchenbryggeriet in Stockholm. Prior to the final, 33-listan has been travelling all over Sweden in the hunt for the technology companies of tomorrow. The judges have been looking for companies offering a unique product or service relating to an innovation, companies offering major international potential and a willingness to change their industry.
“It is fantastic to see so many innovative new companies starting up in Sweden, and that the companies included in 33-listan have managed to achieve so much. Many of them have grown and now have net sales exceeding a hundred million kronor – or have been sold for billions,” says Marie Alpman, reporter and editorial officer at Ny Teknik.
This year, 33-listan is based on more than 300 nominations of companies from Simrishamn in the south to Umeå in the North. Stockholm dominates this year, with 14 companies on the list, but otherwise there is plenty of national variation, with four companies from Malmö and four from Gothenburg as well.
“Sweden is a country with a number of major global corporations, all of which started off with an innovative idea. There is a genuine interest in technology in this country, and we have many talented people who deserve a little extra recognition. Finding the winners has been a tough task, pretty much along the same lines as working out who the sports stars of tomorrow are going to be before they have made it big,” says Marie Alpman.
